Self-care challenge for Mums with no time or money

In 2004 I was on the brink of burnout...

no, let's be honest...

I was well and truly burned out.  The only reason I was still functionning was thanks to the five different types of medication my doctor had prescribed to help me make it through the busy season. 

This was my first 'family business' on leaving the corporate world and since taking three months sick leave was not an option, the pills would enable me to keep getting out of bed in the morning - even if lifting my 12 month old son, or even a knife and fork to eat come to think of it, still felt like a major challenge.

Ironically, on paper, this was one of the most successful businesses I ever owned - we made a lot of money.  Living above our semi-gastronomic restaurant in the South of France next to the locks of the canal du midi, life seemed like we had a lot of 'together time' and it all appeared idyllic from the outside.

The Power of Masterminding

The word ‘Masterminding’ was coined in 1925 by author Napoleon Hill and described in more detail in his 1937 book, Think and Grow Rich. The basic concept being - two or more people coming together in harmony to solve problems.

Masterminding has been used over the years by some of the most successful individuals, from the giants of the past like Henry Ford, Thomas Edison to today’s entrepreneurial megastars like Bill Gates, to help grow their business and work on their personal development.

In essence a mastermind is a peer-mentoring group of individuals who meet on a regular basis (in-person or virtually) to support each other to work to their highest potential and hold each other accountable. They tackle challenges and problems together. They lean on each other, give advice, share connections and even do business with each other.

Mumpreneurs empowering the UK economy to the tune of £7bn

The days when mums in business are thought of as just bored housewives dabbling with a hobby are truly numbered! The mums behind the rise of the "mum-economy", businesses owned by women with children under 18, are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the UK economy. 

Businesses run by mothers with children aged 18 or under are generating £7.2bn for the UK economy and supporting 204,000 jobs last year, an increasse of 30% since 2011.

What's more, this is not just a fleeting trend. 

By 2025, the report claims that mums in business will generate £9.5bn for the UK and support an extra 13,000 employees, taking the total jobs created by mumpreneurs to 217,600.

“Improved connectivity and growing digital literacy is enabling ambitious, business-minded mums, to realise and pursue successful enterprises," said Sarah Calcott, chief operating officer of eBay.
