Community Sponsor

Meet Emily Thorpe, our Community sponsor, and find out why she chose to support the Mpower awards and how Evolution Financial Planning can help you as a mum in business...

Meet Emily Thorpe, founder of Happy Working Mum

Why did you choose to sponsor the Mpower National Business Awards?

I am deeply aligned with the Mpower values and am proud to be part of the Mpower core team.

As part of the team I am keen to promote 'the Mpower way' which means that we all find the unique way to run our business and be with our families, that suits us perfectly.

Mpower is not a cookie cutter solution, Mpower is a supportive community that enables mums in business to find success on their own terms.

What do see as being the biggest challenges facing mums in business?

One of the biggest challenges for mums in business is to maintain the courage to believe in themselves, throughout their business journey.

We can all have moments of inspiration when we know exactly why we're here and what we have to do.

We can also have moments of doubt, when we question whether we're good enough or whether we have what it takes to be a success.

The Mpower team and community are here to support mums along the way; sharing in their joy when they feel inspired and supporting them when the doubts creep in.

Tell us a bit about your own business journey?

Having been an Air Traffic Controller for many years, I felt a massive shift when I became a mum for the first time. All my priorities changed and my greatest desire was to be the best mum I could be.

Being plagued by feelings of guilt and overwhelm, I found I was a long way off from that ideal. I trained as a life coach and once I'd found a solution I felt compelled to help other mums find their version of the mum they wanted to be.

What is your number one piece of advice to mums in the early stage of business?

Find a community (or sisterhood) of people that can support you, that understand what you're going through and can be your cheerleaders. Oftentimes our partners and family don't get what we're trying to achieve or even what we're talking about.

I can remember telling my husband in great detail about all the issues I was having with my autoresponder, I looked up to see a blank look on his face! You need to surround yourself with people that 'get it'

How does your company help mums in business?

Happy Working Mum offers coaching and online programmes to support mums to become just that...Happy Working Mums.

I have written a book 'The Working Mums 5 Step Solution to Having It All', I have created an affirmation CD for Mums 'Truly Amazing' and have lots of free resources on my website too.

What are you most looking forward to at the finals Gala on June 23rd?

Meeting as many incredible Mums as I can.

Having been privileged to read many of the entries as a category judge, I know what fantastic women have entered these awards. I want to meet them all and tell them how amazing they truly are.
